If you are looking for a single player game that is completely different from most "Rah! Rah! Go America" shooters, check this out. However since there is a lack of replayability and multiplayer is nothing exceptional so I cannot recommend this at full price. As someone who can quickly tire of a single player campaign this one kept me focused until the very end. The game shines through in its narrative, the great story was the reason I continued to play. However since there is a lack of replayability and multiplayer is nothing exceptional so I Like many have said, the Shooting and cover mechanics are clunky and NOT the strength of this game. Like many have said, the Shooting and cover mechanics are clunky and NOT the strength of this game. Overall though it's an enjoyable experience and I do recommend it but only when it's on sale as it's also very short at around 4 hours. The gunplay just isn't satisfying as a result. Aiming feels weird out of the box, which means you have to edit config files to correct it and even then it's average at best, the enemy AI is honestly awful, they run out into fire like lemmings constantly and half of the time just stand around while you kill them and moving in and out of cover feels clunky. Humble Bundle’s free deal - available on Linux, Mac and Windows PC - runs until Saturday morning.Spec Ops does a lot right, the atmosphere and location are brilliant, the story is interesting, the characters are voiced well and have real character and it's backed by a solid soundtrack, the only real issue is the gameplay, and obviously that's a pretty big issue. And maybe we should be able to make that distinction more often. I wasn’t happy that I played through Spec Ops: The Line, but I am glad that I did. And against very steep odds, Spec Ops: The Line succeeds in what it’s trying to do. The power-fantasy catharsis behind other shooters buckles under the weight of Spec Ops : The Line’s story of mistakes made and the consequences of intentions. I don’t know if I can say Spec Ops : The Line is fun, exactly. The story that Spec Ops tells goes so far beyond the jingoistic odes to nebulous war-time duty that it almost seems necessary to play. But, as we stated in our review, Spec Ops : The Line tries to do something different: Set in a ruined Dubai, players make their way through sandstorms and broken cityscapes, taking out enemies. A sad musical score focuses on the grim business at hand.Īt a purely mechanical level, it’s a fairly standard shooter. Yager Development’s 2012 shooting game is best remembered for its attempt to bring a sense of melancholy to a well-worn genre. Spec Ops: The Line is free for PC owners for the next two days, courtesy of Humble Bundle.
